Why it's dangerous
The solders in the product have an excessive concentration of lead and cadmium (measured values up to 80.5% and 0.231% by weight, respectively). The plastic material of the cable has an excessive concentration of bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), lead and short chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) (measured values up to 2.23%, 2.5%, 0.14% and 0.67% by weight, respectively). DEHP and DBP pose a risk to human health and the environment. Lead poses a risk to the environment. Cadmium bio-accumulates and poses a risk to the environment. SCCPs persist in the environment, are toxic to aquatic organisms at low concentrations and bio-accumulate in wildlife and humans, posing a risk to human health and the environment. Prolonged exposure to them through the skin may cause cancer.
