Why it's dangerous
Although the product is accompanied by instructions on how to use, clean and store it, these contain no information on the risk of toxic shock syndrome (TSS), which can occur if consumers do not respect adequate personal hygiene and limit the wearing time. TSS has serious and acute health complications, including organ failure, caused by toxins produced by Staphylococcus aureus, bacteria naturally present on the skin that can propagate in the sponge.
