Why it's dangerous

The earthing conductor is shorter than the current-carrying conductors. If the supply cord slips out of its anchorage, the earthing connection could therefore disconnect first, while the live conductors remain connected. This could leave accessible metal parts unearthed and potentially live, increasing the risk of electric shock, fire and burns.
